Scratch Tester for plastic surfaces - type KKO 

Description of the tester

The device basically consists of a plane, a hardmetal blade and a loading spring. At the scarf edge of the plane there is a spring-loaded test blade. The force applied by the spring can be adjusted steplessly on a scale according to the plastic to be tested. 

During the test the plane is pulled over the surface at a uniform velocity. The test criteria is the visibility of scratches.

1.1.Preparation of the tester

In position 9 the blade has to stick out by at least 3mm vertically to the contact area. In the rearmost position the blade has to be fully inside the the contact area body. In positin 9 the blade has to reach the front stop.

1.2. Conducting a test

The tester is set on the horizontally placed. It is pushed over the surface on a preferably even spot in an equal and straight-lined move. 

Depending on the specimen’s dimensions preferably three test marks should be set parallel to each other for a testing distance of about 150 mm. Three more marks are to be set vertical to them. The test marks should have a distance of at least 10 mm to each other. 

2. Classification of the requirements 

The classification is done by the testing engineer or is determined in a component specific testing standard. 

2.1 Visible spots

A  Direct spot with decoration function e.g. bars, emblems etc. 

B Direct spot, often in field of view. Close parts such as A column, cockpit etc. 

C Restricted field of view such as fond, entrance area, well visible parts in feet area, trunk, B column, pockets etc.

D Generally covert areas such as trunk, engine compartment etc.
