金属膜电阻器一般采用真空蒸发工艺制得，即在真空中加热合金，合金蒸发，使瓷棒表面形成一层导电金属膜。刻槽和改变金属膜厚度可以控制阻值。它的耐热性、噪声电势、温度系数、电压系数等电性能比碳膜电阻器优良。金属膜电阻器的制造工艺比较灵活，不可以调整它的材料成分和膜层厚度，也可通过刻槽调整阻值，因而可以制成性能良好，阻值范围较宽的电阻器。
