就像电感式传感器一样，电容式传感器检测目标物也是非接触式的。电容式传感器既能检测导电性材料同时又能检测非导电性材料，然而我们通常用于检测塑料，液体，粉末状和粒状物等非电导性材料物体。在实际应用中，电容式接近开关的灵敏度取决于被检目标物的材料特性。比如金属，塑料或者液体等目标物的材料特性会影响电容式传感器的感应距离，因而被检测到的动作点也会各不相同。考虑到这些材料不同引起的差异，倍加福提供很多产品都是可调灵敏度的，从而使这些传感器在实际应用中变得更加灵活。
